POSITION OVERVIEW
The R&D Manager will oversee a team of skilled scientists and engineers, reporting directly to the Director of Innovation. This role involves managing the R&D pipeline, coordinating product development activities, and ensuring that all projects meet technical, quality, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a strategic approach to innovation and product lifecycle management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage the R&D team in developing new products, including formulation design, process optimisation, and scale-up.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including Quality, Production, and Regulatory, to ensure seamless project execution from concept to commercialisation.
  • Design and implement research methodologies to test product stability, efficacy, and safety, adhering to industry standards.
  • Ensure all R&D activities comply with applicable regulatory standards, including FDA, EMA, and Health Canada guidelines.
  • Oversee laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, and budgeting to support ongoing research and development efforts.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methods that enhance R&D productivity and innovation.
  • Lead project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure alignment with company goals and client expectations.
  • Communicate technical updates and progress reports to senior management and clients as needed.
  • Serve as the R&D representative in client and regulatory audits, addressing inquiries and providing required documentation.
  • Support intellectual property development and patent filing processes to safeguard innovations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, or a related field; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in R&D, with at least 2 years in a managerial role within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Strong understanding of formulation science, product development processes, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in using analytical equipment and software for data analysis and project tracking.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills, with experience managing high-performing R&D teams.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration and reporting.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and experience with cGMP and GLP compliance.
